Fancy Rice


  • Cutting board (non-meat)
  • Knife
  • Pot (3 quart)


  • 1 tablespoons of oil
  • 1/8th of a large yellow onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 jalapeño
  • 1 cup of long-grain rice
  • 2 cups of broth (preferably from stew)


  1. Start heating oil in pot
  2. Chop onion, garlic and add to pot
  3. Remove core from jalapeño, chop, and add to pot
  4. Cook until onion starts to become translucent
  5. Add rice to pot, and mix to thoroughly coat grains in oil
  6. Add broth to pot and bring pot to boil
  7. Once at a boil, cover pot and reduce heat to a simmer
  8. Cook for 17 minutes
  9. Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes
